Mediation is confidential and voluntary, and is less expensive and faster than going to court. A mediator’s responsibility is to assist the parties to resolve their disputes in a non-adversarial way. Unlike arbitration or a court appearance where the intermediary listens to both parties and makes the decision on how the dispute will be settled mediators are a neutral third party that assists the parties to come to a solution themselves. A mediator’s duty is to facilitate the meeting, sometimes provide suggestion or ideas on how to solve the conflict, and help the parties to negotiate a fair agreement that is accepted by both parties.
